The Record-Breaking Casino

If you like the sparkle and glamour of the large Las Vegas casinos, you ain't seen nothing yet - The world's largest, fanciest casino is no longer a resident of Nevada, not since the opening of The Venetian in Macau on August 2007. The huge complex includes all the bare necessities a gambler needs: it has hotels, restaurants, retail shopping, concerts and even sports events not to mention of course several different gaming areas, slot machines and gambling tables.

This all started with the chairman of the Las Vegas Sands who spent 2.4 billion American dollars in the building of this huge casino. Modelled according to the famous Italian city of Venice, you can take a gondola ride right through the casino. It is designed according to Italian architecture as if to make you forget that you are actually in Asia! Marble floors, fountains, high rooves and gold statues - glamour at its best. The casino itself stands (wait for it) 40 stories high with 7 resort hotels and is the largest single structure hotel building in Asia as well as being the third largest building in the world!

There are endless activities at the Venetian Macau and over 16,000 employees attending to the gaming tables. Or if that doesn't tickle your fancy, why not make it over to one of the seven thousand slot machines or go relax in one of the 3000 hotel suites. Of course, for the ladies, there is always shopping and with 350 shops, you couldn't possibly get bored. If you managed to stop before you drop there is always the sports arena which seats 15,000 people and has hosted great entertainers as Beyonce, Celine Dion, and The Police.

And how about the rooms? The Royale and Bella suits are about 70 square meters and offer plasma TV, work area, king size or queen size beds, marble bathroom and fully stocked mini bar just for starters. If you need a bit more elbow room, step into the Rialto suites which measure at 170 square meters and offer a king size bed, living room, guest bathroom and dressing room. Still too tight? The Paiza Suite which - reserved only for the high rollers - has four bedrooms each with their own bathroom, living and dining area, butler's pantry and (in case you strained your shoulder while throwing the dice) a massage room. Gambling is hard work too, you know..
